Scottish thistle hand-perforation
Scottish thistle hand-perforation
Viewfinders hint at the following location, before the full postcard is revealed.
Moss campion perforation
Two postcards of each location, one new and one old.

A book that acts as an invitation for a four-day trip across the Scottish Highlands, starting on the 164th day of the year. The book features four ‘chapters’, one for every location. Each location is slowly revealed as the pages are turned, starting with a perforated native Scottish flower, followed by a postcard from the location, and a die-cut line that traces the road route from point to point. Throughout the book, a rubbing of a 25-year old tree stump (the age of the recipient) starts to appear — an indiscernible graphite shape at first — and becomes complete on the last page of the book.

The only printed element in the book are the names and coordinates of each place. Otherwise, the book focuses on texture, in an attempt to capture the peaceful escape this trip was to bring. Each intervention (eg. perforation, die cut, rubbing) is carried out on a different paper stock to enhance the various methods of image making featured.

The tipped in postcards dispersed throughout the book are from each destination, and acts as an opportunity for the owner to interact with the book, storing a memory upon arrival.
